Evidence-based tutoring tailored for your child

Specialist intervention for students navigating dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and autism. We deliver structured 1-on-1 online sessions across Australia to build real skills and lasting confidence.

Evidence-based programs, not guesswork

Every child learns differently!

At Literacy for Life Tutoring, we teach the fundamentals of reading, writing, spelling and maths through structured, research-backed programs — so every session builds toward real classroom confidence.

The Simple View of Reading is a model developed by Philip Gough and William Tunmer in 1986; explains reading comprehension as the product of two separate skill sets

Reading Comprehension = Word Recognition × Language Comprehension

Word Recognition (WR) — the ability to decode print into spoken language. This includes:

  • Phonological awareness (hearing and manipulating sounds in words)
  • Orthography (knowledge of spelling patterns)
  • Morphology (understanding word parts like prefixes/suffixes)

Language Comprehension (LC) — the ability to understand spoken language, which draws on:

  • Vocabulary
  • Background knowledge
  • Syntax (sentence structure)
  • Semantics (meaning)
  • Pragmatics (contextual/social use of language)

The Simple View of Writing (developed by Virginia Berninger and colleagues) is the writing counterpart to the Simple View of Reading. It models writing as depending on three interacting components, all operating within working memory:

Transcription — the mechanical skills of getting language onto the page:

  • Handwriting or typing
  • Spelling

Text generation — the compositional skills of creating the actual content:

  • Word choice
  • Sentence construction
  • Discourse (organising ideas at the paragraph/whole-text level)

Why structured, scientific intervention works

Children with learning differences need explicit, sequential instruction. Unlike generic tutoring, our diagnostic approach breaks literacy and numeracy into manageable components, ensuring mastery at every step.

Flexible 1-on-1 online sessions

Delivered nationally across Australia from our Melbourne base. All lessons are one-on-one and tailored to your child's pace. We offer flexible 30-minute or 50-minute sessions designed to keep students focused, motivated, and supported in a low-stress home environment.

Initial assessments and consultation

We begin by identifying your child's specific strengths and learning hurdles. Whether your child has a formal diagnosis or needs targeted intervention, we create an actionable plan to help them catch up and flourish in school.
